On a rough night for Berks boys teams in Class 6A, the Wilson Bulldogs managed to move on in the District 3 basketball tournament.

Fourth-seeded Muhlenberg and fifth-seeded Reading High were knocked off, but the sixth-seeded Bulldogs defeated Conestoga Valley, 58-51, to advance to Friday’s quarterfinals.

The Muhls and Red Knights saw their season’s come to an end, as 13th-seeded Cedar Crest defeated Muhlenberg 66-60 in overtime and 12th-seeded York High upset Reading High 86-69.

Wilson will play third-seeded Red Lion at 7 p.m. on Friday in the quarterfinals. Wilson is guaranteed at least two more games as the loser in the quarterfinals drops into the consolation bracket.

In the Class 3A quarterfinals, third-seeded Antietam defeated sixth-seeded Kutztown 48-22. Antietam plays second-seeded Lancaster Mennonite at 7 p.m. Friday in the semifinals at Mennonite.

In the girls 5A tournament, Lampeter-Strasburg defeated Exeter 47-30.

Wilson trailed 46-45 heading into the final quarter, but outscored the Buckskins 13-5 in the final eight minutes.

Correll Akings had seven of his game-high 26 points in the fourth quarter as Wilson (16-9) pulled ahead.

Also in the pivotal final period, Peter Kelfalla had his only two points of the game, Kaler Cornish hit two free throws,  and Jayden Lockhart hit a basket.

Akings made four 3 pointers in the game, two 2-point baskets and was 10 of 14 from the foul line.

Cornish finished with 10 points and Michael Glover had 8.

In York High’s upset of Reading High, Nasie Barnes scored 33 points and Yosiah Romero had 13.

York High led 22-10 after the first quarter and never trailed.

For the Red Knights, who didn’t qualify for the district tournament last season, Jostin DeCastro had 20 points and Jay Merriweather had 19.

In Cedar Crest’s upset of Muhlenberg, Antonio Tirado scored 8 of his 11 points in the overtime as the Falcons (14-10) outscored the Muhls 12-6 in the extra session.

Jemar Pauleus led Cedar Crest with 25 points.

For Muhlenberg (16-8) , LJ Armstrong had 19 points, Eli Hemmings 16 and Nelson Malave 10.

Muhlenberg beat Cedar Crest, 63-54, on Dec. 5 in the CoBL Winter Showcase.

There are 10 Berks teams still alive in the district playoffs with four yet to take the court.

In boys 4A, there will be three quarterfinal games on Friday involving those four teams. Berks Catholic, the BCIAA champion and top seed, hosts Eastern York, fourth-seeded Wyomissing entertains fifth-seeded Schuylkill Valley and seventh-seeded Oley Valley travels to second-seeded Bishop McDevitt.

Also Friday in the boys 6A quarterfinals, Wilson is at Red Lion. In 3A, third-seeded Antietam plays at second-seeded Lancaster Mennonite.

On Thursday, Exeter’s boys play in the 5A consolations, hosting Elco.

In girls 6A on Thursday, Wilson is home for a quarterfinal game against Mechanicsburg, and Gov. Mifflin is on the road at Dallastown.

In 3A girls, Oley Valley is at Trinity in a semifinal game.
