2025 champ: Honesdale’s Nathan Schuman (returns)
Top seed: Schuman (40-1) is ranked third in the state and first in the region according to PA Power Wrestling. The sophomore teched No. 3 Montrose sophomore Sawyer Brander (24-9) last season and No. 5 Wyoming Area junior Chase Wilhelm (22-14) this season and pinned No. 7 Scranton Prep freshman Jason Carter (6-16).
Others to watch: Wilhelm, ranked 21st in the state and sixth in the region, pinned No. 2 Hanover Area freshman Nate Clime (22-11), ranked 30th in the state and a regional honorable mention, in December, but based on seeding they probably won’t face off. Tanzini wrestled most of the season at 114. Wilhelm spent December at 114 before dropping down to 107 in January. No one will challenge Schuman, so this is a battle for second and third place to qualify for the Northeast Regional.
Projected final: Schuman over Clime.

Top seed: Hanover Area sophomore Chase Smith (33-6) is ranked 14th in the state and fourth in the region. Of the eight wrestlers in the bracket, he only faced No. 7 Berwick senior Yamiel Melendez (5-16) this season, pinning him three times. Last season, he pinned and teched No. 2 Lackawanna Trail junior Matt Shafer (21-10) and pinned No. 4 Valley View sophomore Jackson Healey (23-16).
Others to watch: Shafer is ranked eighth in the region and No. 6 Tunkhannock freshman Gunnar Faux (18-14) is a regional honorable mention. Shafer pinned No. 3 Honesdale junior Jason Bronson (17-11), majored Healey and topped Faux in a 13-10 sudden victory. A rematch in the semifinals is possible.
Projected final: Smith over Shafer.

Top seed: Berwick senior Carmen Malt (18-4) is ranked 26th in the state and fourth in the region. He teched No. 3 Hanover Area junior Ethan Noe (21-9). Malt eyes gold after capturing bronze as a freshman and two straight silvers.
Others to watch: No. 2 Honesdale sophomore Brody Walsh (26-9) is ranked seventh in the region, and No. 4 Montrose freshman Grady Loureiro (20-3) and Noe are regional honorable mentions. Walsh has two decisions and a major over Noe, pinned Loureiro and teched No. 5 Blue Ridge junior Giovanni Annesi (19-11).
Projected final: Malt over Walsh.

Top seed: Hanover Area sophomore C.J. Caines (38-0) is ranked fourth in the state and first in the region. Last season at 114, he secured sixth at states, silver at regionals and gold at districts. He pinned No. 3 Valley View sophomore James Scagliotti (22-13) and No. 5 Lackawanna Trail sophomore Joseph Thomas (14-16) last season.
Others to watch: No. 2 Blue Ridge senior Brice Woodruff (32-6) is ranked 20th in the state and sixth in the region, captured district gold at 121 last season and qualified for states. He teched No. 4 Honesdale senior Jesse Balsam (10-7). Caines and Woodruff will certainly go 1-2 in this weight class.

2025 champ: Scranton Prep’s Jake Barrett (returns)
Top seed: Honesdale senior Justin Scanlon (28-16) captured a district title as a freshman and secured his 100th career victory this season. He pinned No. 5 Montrose sophomore Delos Stone (22-14), No. 8 Western Wayne sophomore Anthony Allen (4-6) and No. 9 Valley View sophomore Mason Venia (13-14).
Others to watch: This is a wide open bracket. No. 2 Lackawanna Trail sophomore Riley Borruso (30-8), a regional honorable mention, had a 13-10 victory over Scanlon on Jan. 16, two decision wins over No. 4 Hanover Area junior Jace Thomas (24-12) and teched Stone. However, he was pinned by No. 6 Lake-Lehman junior Connor Higgins (11-12), a regional honorable mention, on Feb. 3. Barrett (19-12), a senior, wrestled most of the season at 139 and no matches at 133.
Projected final: Borruso over Scanlon.

2025 champ: Mid Valley’s Matthew Almedina (returns)
Top seed: Almedina (28-5) is ranked 18th in the state and third in the region. The senior is a three-time district champion, a three-time state qualifier and leads District 2’s active wrestlers with 138 career wins. He only faced two wrestlers this season that are in the 139 bracket, including No. 5 Lackawanna Trail junior Joshua Fowler (18-15) and No. 8 Blue Ridge junior Richard Lord (12-21), and pinned both of them in the first period.
Others to watch: No. 2 Honesdale senior Sam Eisele (19-12) majored No. 4 Wyoming Area junior Lincoln Smith (10-20) this season, edged No. 3 Dallas junior Aidan Hilburt (16-10), 9-8, and topped Fowler, 12-5, last season at districts.
Projected final: Almedina over Eisele.

Top seed: Hanover Area junior Michael Perez (24-10) is a regional honorable mention. He has three decision victories over No. 3 Lake-Lehman freshman Jackson Scott (18-9), a regional honorable mention.
Others to watch: No. 2 Berwick senior Sawyer Keller (33-11), ranked 27th in the state and sixth in the region, pinned and majored Perez this season, but has a 5-1 loss to Scott. Watch out for No. 4 Lackawanna Trail junior Mark Rebmann (8-1), ranked 24th in the state and fifth in the region. He had two strong seasons at West Scranton and his only loss this season came against Bellefonte’s Wyatt Long, who is ranked 12th in the state at 139 in Class 3A.
Projected final: Rebmann over Keller.

Top seed: Valley View sophomore Tywone Giles (35-1) is ranked 22nd in the state and fifth in the region. His only loss came to Mahanoy’s Rory Dixon, ranked seventh in the state.
Others to watch: No. 2 Dallas senior Bobby Booth (12-3) majored No. 3 Berwick senior Jacob Guerriero (29-7), ranked 28th in the state and seventh in the region, on Jan. 14. Pittston Area’s Ethan Aftewicz is the only other District 2 wrestler to beat Guerriero this season.

Others to watch: No. 2 Hanover Area junior Jeff Peck (26-11), a regional honorable mention, split two matches with No. 4 Berwick sophomore Conner Roberts (18-9). If the seeds hold, a Peck-Wilcox semifinal should be a good one.

Others to watch: No. 2 Blue Ridge junior Zachary Krupovich (31-7) is ranked eighth in the region and earned district silver last season at 160.

Others to watch: Conte teched No. 4 Dallas junior Kenny Martin (19-9) and pinned No. 7 Hanover Area junior Lucas Cruz (20-15) twice. No. 8 Valley View junior Mason Mitchell (12-17) pinned Hobart this season, and No. 5 Elk Lake sophomore Colby Ruark (21-9) pinned Hobart last season. No. 6 Tunkhannock senior Jordan Milne (22-9) wrestled most of the season at 215 and just one match at 189. He pinned Ruark twice this season.
