DELMONT, Pa. —

Ianni’s Pizzeria has reopened for takeout nearly two years after a fire heavily damaged the beloved local restaurant in Delmont, Westmoreland County.

“We were surprised, but we’ve been tracking them for a while, calling, ‘What’s the ETA? When do you think you’ll be open?'” said Jeffery Giles, from Murrysville.

Another customer, Dawnic Fink, said, “I am so excited. I’ve been waiting forever.”

In September 2024, Ianni’s was heavily damaged by a fire that took crews about two hours to extinguish. Around the same time, the pizzeria gained national attention.

“We had a lot of steam before the fire. Dave Portnoy came to visit, and we were so excited, and about a week or two weeks later, it all came to an end,” said owner and manager Wesley Harris.

The fire burned only a portion of the restaurant, but the owners quickly realized they had to completely rebuild.

“But from the water and the excess smoke, and once all the repairs were started, we found problems that had to be fixed,” Harris said.

Challenges and setbacks prolonged the reopening.

“The oven came straight from Italy, so we waited for that. It sat outside. We had those issues because it got ruined sitting out in the weather,” said Nico Latta, whose construction company rebuilt the pizzeria. “It was just one issue after another, but we came through it and jumped through those hoops and made it work.”

“We’re filled with joy to finally be open,” Harris said.

Customers share the excitement.

“On their post, they said 2 o’clock you can start making phone calls, and it took me about 18 minutes or more to get through,” Giles said.

“Everyone just loves this place,” Fink said.

For now, Ianni’s is open every day except Sunday from 4-8 p.m., offering takeout only. The pizzeria expects to be fully operational by the end of the month.
