L. SAUCON TWP., Pa. – A tractor-trailer that caught on fire closed part of Interstate 78 Thursday night.

It happened on I-78 westbound between the Route 412 and Route 33 ramps in Lower Saucon Township.

Northampton County emergency dispatchers said they received the call for help just after 10 p.m.

Just before 11 p.m., that part of I-78 remained closed and was expected to remain closed for approximately another 30 minutes while multiple fire companies worked on the scene.

Dispatchers said the trailer was empty, and there were no injuries.

However, the amount of water needed to douse the flames resulted in icy conditions on the road, and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation was called to salt the road surface, dispatchers said.
