Crestwood Senior Ayden Agapito has developed into one of the best players in the Wyoming Valley conference this season. The senior has led the comets in scoring and rebounding in a offense that averages 51 points a game.
Mark Atherton, Crestwood Coach says, “ You know, a lot of hard work on his own. You know, we don’t want to take all the credit, a lot of the credit his is and did some AAU as well. So, I think through all of it, he’s he has a great pull up game. I don’t want to give the scouting report , but he certainly does a lot of good things offensively. “
Ayden Agapito, Crestwood Senior added, “ Obviously my skills are improved, faster, stronger, all that kind of stuff, but it’s just more so just seeing the floor being, you know, where my shots are and letting the game come to me and more and more, I got to go out there, take those shots.
Now that I got to do with everybody else but to myself, that I am capable of what I’m going to step up when I need to. “
Crestwood games this season have been slow and methodical as the comets focus on defense; They only give up 40 points per game.
Gio Barna, Crestwood Senior says, “ Our defense is our main thing. We’re best on defense and then our defense transitions into our offense.
Connor Wagaman, Crestwood Senior added, “ Mostly I think more if I get a good basketball, probably an offense like good ball movement and defense, like everyone’s into it. You know, we’re against, you know, for helping each other, rotating around the floor. We’re flying around and we just help each other and trusting each other. “
Pittston Area is 12 and 11 and right where they thought they would be and playing their best basketball of the season with a team that is starting to get hot shooting 3 pointers.
Al Semenza, Pittston Area Coach says, “I think our two post guys, both juniors, have been proved. Hopefully they’re going to continue to improve. They have another year coming back. But if we can get some good play from them, on Friday night, it’ll go a long way.”
Lucas LaPresto, Pittston Area Junior added, “ Oh we’re so confident. We’re we trust each other. We’re just passing the ball around, trusting what coach Al Says and just trusting each other. “
Crestwood and Pittston area split the regular season matchups. These two teams have a history in the district playoffs, as the Patriots beat the Comets in 2024. In the opening round. This will be the third meeting of the season between the two teams. Expect a low scoring defensive battle with the winner headed to the championship game.
Atherton says, “ I think we both pride ourselves on defense. But ultimately you guys put some points on the board to win this game. So, we hope that we can come out execute and shoot a little bit better. Obviously hold them down. But I mean you never know with Pittston; both teams know each other and scout each other in this game as it was in the 20 high 20s. It could be if it ends up in the low 40s, it could be as well. “
Semenza added, “They’re physical, they got some nice size, tough place to play down in Crestwood, as you know. Not many teams have beaten down there. But it’s gonna be a heck of a game. You know what? We’re going to take our shot at, and we’ll be ready to play. I’m sure they’re going to be ready. They like to dig into play D, so two weeks off should be an interesting night. “
