EASTON, Pa. – Easton police are issuing a warning to dog owners after more beef sticks stuffed with fishhooks and razors popped up in downtown Easton.

More than a week after concerned residents warned Easton pet owners about pieces of beef sticks laced with sharp objects, more of the dangerous treats have appeared near Northampton Street.

One woman, who wished to remain anonymous, told 69 News over the phone her dog swallowed three razor blades this week after snatching the treats on Northampton Street.

“He’s a constant sniffer; his nose is always on the ground so it can be hard to see if he does pick something up. I noticed he picked something up, I shoved my hand in his mouth, and the beef stick didn’t have a razor or fishhook in there,” she told us.

Her dog, 4-year-old Riblet, had surgery to remove the blades.

“Unfortunately, he had to go into a second surgery. They took out two blades, and they had to go in for the third. There were razor blade fragments which makes it harder for them to extract that and more dangerous,” she explained.

Last week, Easton police arrested 47-year-old Joseph Janko-Hudson on six counts of cruelty to animals and six counts of criminal attempt to commit cruelty to animals.

69 News received an update from police on the reappearance of the laced treats saying, “We currently believe the treats are from the same actor who was charged the other week. The beef sticks and the fishhooks appear to be the same. We believe the additional discoveries are due to the sticks becoming visible as snow melts along the sidewalks.”

Police urge anyone with pets to remain vigilant when out walking them.

Anyone whose pet is injured by one of these objects is asked to contact the Easton police non-emergency line and file a report.
