The Dollar Tree location is one of many within the city of Easton.

A dollar store opened in Easton’s South Side on Saturday, replacing a CVS that closed last year. This marked the second recent major retail opening for the neighborhood, which recently saw a new pharmacy.

The store, known nationally for affordable prices and a $7 price cap on items, featured full shelves of food, baking supplies, children’s toys and more. Situated at the entrance of the store was a belated Valentine’s Day and early Easter display.

A staff member at the store said the site is open 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the rest of the week. The representative declined to comment further and deferred The Lafayette to a national media contact, who did not respond to a request for comment.

“It’s nice to have something you can just do locally, and grab stuff quickly,” said Troy Lister, an Easton resident who lives a few blocks away from the new Dollar Tree.

He added that the CVS closure, where he used to shop often, “hurt most people who are local.”

Lister, who was shopping for Q-tips, helped take down the racks in CVS when it closed as part of a task for his nonprofit company. He had initially hoped a restaurant might replace the CVS, but said the store is still helpful for “quick, easy grabs.”

Mary Rosado, a South Side resident, said that the new Dollar Tree location opening was more convenient for her family. Rosado said she originally came to purchase hair products, but was surprised by the variety of items available, including electronics and accessories.

“I was waiting for it,” she said, adding that she previously had to go to a Family Dollar situated farther south from her home.

The new opening adds Dollar Tree to the list of low-cost stores in the Greater Easton area: there is a Family Dollar located near Interstate 78 in the city’s South Side, as well as one downtown near Center Square. Other Dollar Tree sites include locations in Forks Township and Palmer Township.
