EASTON, Pa. – The region’s entertainment community is coming together on Wednesday to say goodbye to a beloved comedian who died by suicide.

A memorial is being held in Easton on Wednesday night for Nate Marks, 43.

“Nate was really just one of the most magical people I ever met,” said Jessica Delfino.

“The funniest person I ever met, and he loved to make people laugh. It’s what he lived for,” said Sam Grim.

“And he loved sandwiches. He had a Facebook group called the Sandwich Enthusiasts Association of Pennsylvania,” Delfino added.

Local comedians Delfino and Grim are remembering their friend, Nate Marks.

The pair wants people to know that despite the laughter, real pain can hide—even with the most jovial of people.

“It’s not easy to see when folks are depressed. It’s a very invisible disease, especially for someone like Nate, who is always smiling, laughing and cracking jokes,” Grim said.

In the fall of 2021, Marks’ girlfriend was accidentally killed by a train on her way to meet him. His current girlfriend said the tragedy haunted Marks, and October was especially difficult.

He died by suicide Friday, struck by a train.

“You don’t have to say, ‘Oh wow, you seem really depressed.’ You can just check in: ‘Hey, I’m wondering how you’re doing,’” said Kristen Pedemonti, a storyteller, speaker and narrative therapist.

Pedemonti, who counsels trauma survivors, said her father attempted suicide five times. In 2010, she herself was one step away from suicide by a New York City subway.

She said organizations like the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance offer support—and so can you.

“We don’t realize how powerful it is to simply send somebody a text and say, ‘Hey, I’m thinking about you. Wondering how you’re doing today,’ and open it up that way,” she said.

“The posts and the outpouring of things people have been writing and sharing about him have been amazing and have confirmed what I already knew—that he was a really special person,” Delfino added.

A legacy beyond laughter—Nate’s lasting mark on the world.
