The Pennsylvania Attorney General’s Office has dropped all charges against Allentown Police Sgt. Evan Weaver, who had been accused of rape, involuntary servitude and indecent assault while on the job as a police officer.

Some charges also were dropped against former Allentown police officer Jason Krasley, who continues to face additional sex crime charges from his time as an officer.

Weaver, 45, was arrested early last year after a woman who was acting as a confidential informant said Weaver and Krasley forced her to perform sex acts to avoid arrest.

“From the moment the charges were filed, Sgt. Weaver steadfastly maintained his innocence,” said Josh Karoly, Weaver’s attorney, in a statement sent to The Morning Call. “Over the past year, he and his family have endured profound personal and professional hardship under the weight of allegations that have now been dismissed.”

It was not immediately clear why the Attorney General’s Office dropped the charges. A phone call and email to the office was not immediately returned Friday afternoon.

Similar charges against Krasley, Weaver’s co-defendant, were also dropped. According to Karoly, an alleged victim testified against the two co-defendants, and charges relating to that specific person were dropped.

However, Krasley continues to face charges based on testimony from other alleged victims, including kidnapping, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, intimidation of a witness and criminal coercion.
