Scranton School District officials say there is no danger after the report of an individual with a gun near a football practice at Memorial Stadium on Wednesday night.

According to a release, the West Scranton High School coach was alerted to the unconfirmed individual and immediately secured staff and students, as city police were on their way to the scene.

“Law enforcement responded quickly and the situation is under control,” the district said in a release at about 7:30 p.m. “Again, all students are safe. The Scranton Police Department is investigating and handling the situation.”

The release concluded in lauding district coaches with reacting appropriately to the situation and ensuring staff and students remained safe.
