  • February 20, 2026

SCRANTON, Pa. (WBNG) — As the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation advances plans to restore passenger rail service between Scranton and New York City, Binghamton Mayor Jared Kraham says that Binghamton might not be far behind.

The Scranton to New York City Corridor ID project would re-establish the 140-mile railway with 60 miles in Pennsylvania and 80 miles in New Jersey.

In a statement on Facebook, Kraham said that a restored Scranton to NYC line would reestablish the critical infrastructure needed to then extend the line to Binghamton.

Kraham says that Binghamton officials have been following the Scranton project closely to strengthen the case for expanding service into Upstate New York.

The Scranton to New York Penn Station corridor route is made up of four sections:

Scranton, Pa., to Slateford, Pa. Slateford, Pa., to Port Norris, N.J.Port Norris, N.J., to Kearny, N.J.Kearny, N.J. to New York Penn Station

The proposed corridor would provide three daily round-trips, restoring train traffic in the area for the first time in 50 years.
