SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — A porch fire on Scranton’s West Side was quickly brought under control early this morning, thanks in part to the swift response of a city public works crew.
According to Scranton firefighters, crews were dispatched during a shift change after the city’s communications center received a report of a fire from a Scranton Department of Public Works recycling team. The workers had spotted flames on a porch, alerted emergency dispatchers, and warned the residents inside the home.
Before firefighters arrived, the DPW crew began working to knock down the flames using snow and fire extinguishers, officials said.
Engine 7 responded to the scene, where DPW workers directed firefighters to areas where fire was still burning. Crews extinguished the remaining flames and conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire had not spread beyond the porch.
