HUGHESTOWN, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) — As Lent brings meatless Fridays for many residents, fire departments across Northeast Pennsylvania are running food fundraisers to support their stations.
Hughestown Emergency Services (Hughestown Hose Company) is taking part with weekly sales during Lent that help fund operations and equipment.
The Hughestown Hose Company is selling baked or unbaked pizza and clam chowder every Friday during Lent from noon to 6 p.m. at 30 Center St., with $12 pizza trays in red, white or white broccoli and $12 chowder in Manhattan (red) or New England (white).
Fire Lt. Patrick Kaczmarczyk, a nearly 20-year member of the Hughestown Hose Company, said the Lent sale is one of the department’s biggest fundraisers of the year.
“The community has always been very receptive to this event. We’ve had a lot of support, and our sales are doing very well. We appreciate all the support we get. The money we raise helps cover our daily operations and provides essential equipment we need to serve the community,” said Kaczmarczyk.
The Hughestown Hose Company will also hold a Good Friday fish dinner April 3 starting at noon, featuring freshly battered fish, fresh-cut French fries, homemade coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce.
