A winter storm is expected to hit the region starting Sunday morning and continuing until Monday, bringing an estimated 8 to 12 inches of snow to Berks County, according to a forecast posted Saturday by the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, N.J.
Forecasters said they expected light precipitation to begin by early Sunday morning. Precipitation initially could be rain or a rain and snow mix, but steady snowfall is expected to begin by late afternoon. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated to occur mainly Sunday evening through Sunday night, then begin to taper off by Monday afternoon.
The worst of the storm, with blizzard conditions and snow totals of up to 2 feet, was expected to hit parts of the New Jersey shore, but as of Saturday there was still some uncertainty about the coastal storm’s track.
Forecasters expect this snowfall to heavy, wet and sticky, unlike the lighter snow that fell in the region’s last major winter storm in January.
The weather service is forecasting a high of 36 degrees Sunday and Monday. The temperature isn’t expected to get past the freezing mark on Tuesday, but things are expected to warm up Wednesday and Thursday, with highs of 39 and 44 degrees, respectively.
