Christ Church Burial Ground & Yards Will Host an After-Hours Brew N’ History Tour Showcasing Philly’s Rich Brewing Past

For those that love both history and brews, this one is for you. The After Hours Brew N’ History Tour at Christ Church Burial Ground (20 N. American Street) is happening and will look to create an evening experience blending Philly’s revolutionary past with its deep-rooted brewing culture.

Taking place on March 13, 14, 20, 21, 27, and 28 from 5:00–6:00 PM, this guided walking tour invites guests inside the historic burial ground after hours to explore the lives, legacies, and libations of some of the most influential figures of the 18th century—paired with beer tastings from Yards Brewing Company. Tickets are available at christchurchphila.org/series/brew-n-history-tour

Philadelphia wasn’t just the birthplace of American democracy—it was also one of the New World’s great brewing capitals. Long before coffee became the drink of choice, beer, cider, and wine played a central role in daily life, medicine, social status, and even military strength.

During this immersive tour, guests will stroll among the final resting places of more than 4,000 Philadelphians, including doctors, writers, artists, and revolutionaries, while uncovering how alcohol shaped the health and habits of a young Republic. From taverns where independence was debated to drinks believed to cure illness, the stories reveal a side of history rarely taught in textbooks.
