WILKES-BARRE TWP. — Different week, same result for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

WBS jumped out to a three-goal lead after two periods in a 4-1 victory over Lehigh Valley on Wednesday night at Mohegan Arena.

The Penguins (5-0) hit the road for back-to-back games in Charlotte this weekend. It’s also the second-straight win over Lehigh Valley this season, winning, 4-1, at the PPL Center on Oct. 12.

WBS dominated the power play Wednesday night, scoring twice with the man advantage. Danton Heinen’s power-play goal four minutes into the game gave the Pens a 1-0 lead before Avery Hayes added his third goal of the year for the 2-0 lead after one period.

Atley Calvert’s fourth goal, also coming off the power play, gave WBS a 3-1 lead before Ville Koivunen’s penalty shot gave the locals the 4-1 lead at the second intermission.

Keeper Sergei Murashov picked up another victory in goal, stopping 26 of 27 shots.

The Penguins return home Wednesday where they will host Providence, and will also be home next weekend, hosting Bridgeport on Halloween night.
