The Philadelphia region is bracing for a major winter storm on Sunday into Monday.

BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA — The township has declared a snow emergency ahead of a major winter storm expected to hit the region on Sunday into Monday.
Mayor Joseph DiGirolamo has said the snow emergency, which goes into effect on Sunday, is expected to cause or threatens to cause injury, damage, and suffering to the persons and property of Bensalem Township.
The storm endanger the health safety, and welfare of a substantial number of persons residing in the township and threaten to create problems greater in scope than Bensalem Township may be able to resolve; and emergency management measures are required to reduce the severity of this disaster and to protect the health safety and welfare of affected residents in Bensalem Township.
The mayor, according to the declaration, declares the existence of a disaster emergency in Bensalem Township and directs the Bensalem Emergency Management Coordinator to coordinate the activities of the emergency response, to take all appropriate action needed to alleviate the effects of this disaster, to aid in the restoration of essential public services, and to take any other emergency response action deemed necessary to respond to this disaster emergency.
The storm system is expected to move northward from the Gulf Coast this weekend and will strengthen rapidly along the Atlantic Coast, according to AccuWeather, spreading accumulating snow from West Virginia through the mid-Atlantic and into southern New England from Saturday night through Monday.
Police said residents should call 911 for emergencies and 215-357-8900 for non-emergency situations.
According to the township’s snow emergency declaration, Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Italia may declare a snow and/or ice emergency prohibiting any person to park a motor vehicle or to allow that vehicle to remain parked anywhere on any snow emergency route in the township.
