She stated it began over her not putting away household items on a shelf. Scranton got very agitated, picked up a toaster oven pan and swung it at her head. She put her hand on top of her head to block it, which pinched it between the pan and her head, the report said.
The altercation continued when Scranton pushed the victim backward and pinned her legs against a metal dog kennel. He then picked up a red-handled kitchen knife, threatened to use it and lunged toward her. Fearing for her life, she ran out the door in her stockings on the railroad bed gravel, the report said.
While speaking with her, the deputy noticed a large area of bruising to the back side of her left thigh and a small bruise on the backside of her left calf. There was also a small superficial laceration to her right outer forearm, and the middle and ring fingers on her right hand looked swollen and in the process of bruising, the report said.
The deputy later responded to the Oxford residence to meet with Scranton. A subsequent check of his criminal history revealed one previous conviction for simple battery (domestic) on June 14, 2024, involving the same victim, the report said.
Scranton was arrested on charges of simple battery (domestic – second or subsequent offense) and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to kill. He was transported to the Sumter County Detention Center with bond set at $6,000.
