OBITUARY
Rev. John Costello, SJ died unexpectedly February 11 at Fordham University in New York. He was the son of the late John and Eleanor Clark Costello.
A graduate of Scranton Prep, he furthered his education at Lemoyne College, Syracuse, NY. Upon his college graduation, he entered the Society of Jesus. He did graduate studies at Fordham and the University of Toronto.
During his career, he taught at Regis High School in New York, McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester, NY, Canisius Prep, Buffalo, NY where he also served as principal and Fordham Prep, New York where he served as campus minister.
His last assignment was as minister of Murray-Weigel Hall, a Jesuit residence at Fordham. Upon completion of his term as minister, he became a resident of Murray-Weigel Hall where he passed away.
He celebrated his 50th anniversary as a Jesuit in 2024.
Father Costello is survived by his brother Michael and wife Ellen, niece Caitlin O’Connor and husband Kevin and great niece Nora, all of Scranton.
A funeral Mass was celebrated by the Jesuit Community at Murray-Weigel Hall.
