Allegheny County police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Heidelberg. The shooting happened after a 911 call from a person claiming to be armed and threatening to harm themselves inside a home on Washington Street shortly after midnight. When officers arrived, they found a man outside the home with a knife. According to county police, the arriving officers ordered the man to drop the knife, but instead, he allegedly charged towards the officers. An officer from the Heidelberg Police Department used a Taser, but the man continued towards officers with the knife. That is when a Scott Township police officer fired his weapon at the man. The man, who has not been publicly identified, was shot multiple times. He was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Allegheny County police are handling the investigation.
