Dorothy ‘Dee’ Kunda
OBITUARY
Dorothy Dee Kunda, 79, of West Scranton, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026 at Geisinger Community Medical Center.
Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Amelia and Dominick Donolavich of the St. Ann’s neighborhood. Dee was a proud graduate of St. Ann’s High School and began her career as an operator with Bell Telephone. She later worked at the Earring Palace in the Viewmont Mall, where she became the manager and formed many lasting friendships.
Dee eventually joined PNC Bank, retiring in 2016 as a beloved bank teller at the West Scranton branch. At the height of her career, she was well known in the community, warmly greeting customers by name and brightening the days of all who walked through the doors. Her kindness, gentle spirit, and genuine interest in others left a lasting impression on everyone she met.
After retirement, Dee enjoyed spending time in her she shed creating puzzles, working in coloring books, gardening, reading, and watching British television series. Her greatest joy, however, was cooking and baking for her family. She always seemed to know exactly what meal would make any gathering special, and her kitchen was the heart of many cherished family memories.
A devoted member of St. Ann’s Parish in West Scranton, Dee was deeply faithful and especially loved attending the annual Novena to St. Ann each July.
Dee would have celebrated her 80th birthday on February 24th. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Onofrey.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 58 years, Mike; her sons, Michael and his wife Susan, Jason and his wife Debbie; her close nieces, Lynn Klemick and her husband Gib, Judy Gillette and her husband Dave, Amy Wojcik and her husband Wally; and her nephew, Kenny. She also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
The family would like to thank the Geisinger intensive care unit staff who worked tirelessly to keep Dee comfortable in her final days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in St. Ann’s Basilica. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 -7pm in the Thomas J Hughes FH Inc., 1240 St. Ann St.
