SCRANTON, LACKWANNA CO. (WOLF) — On Saturday, authorities responded to a fire in Scranton and on Sunday, witnesses were able to give us a better look.
Around 5 P.M. 609 Prospect Avenue caught fire. Witnesses said it only took moments for the blaze to become an inferno. Neighbors helped people out and tried to put out the flame to no avail. The fire department came within minutes of the call.
The damage was mostly on the second and third floors of the building. Witnesses called it terrifying.
“Believe it or not, it happened so fast, and flames went up so, so big, I couldn’t believe how fast by the time I got from the back yard to the front yard it was, the whole entire floor was burning,” recalled Edwin Lewis, a witness to the fire who lives next door. “I couldn’t believe it. I never saw nothing like that in my life. I was in a fire one before but that one was terrible.”

The man who called the fire department had a camera on the porch across the street and shared it with Fox56. In it, the man, named Bryan Vizhnay, can be seen pointing to the fire and calling 911. Later, residents are seen fleeing the building, embracing as they watch their home go up in flames. The fire can be seen on the reflection of a nearby car showing its size and ferocity. According to witnesses, no one was killed or seriously injured.
