A Scranton man choked his girlfriend after she told him she had cheated on him, police said.
Nassiah Barnett told police that Tristan Lee got on top of her, grabbed both sides of her neck and squeezed, choking her to unconsciousness.
Officers observed injuries to Barnett’s lip and neck when they arrived in the 500 block of Cayuga Street at 6:42 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, the argument started when Barnett accused Lee of cheating and then detailed how she had also cheated on him.
Barnett told officers Lee choked her to unconsciousness and when she woke, “it was like a euphoric feeling or a high.”
In an effort to make him stop, Barnett told Lee she had been lying about cheating on him. At that point Lee got off of her.
Lee is charged with strangulation, simple assault and recklessly endangering another person.
He remains in Lackawanna County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bail.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. on March 4 before District Judge Paul Keeler.
Officers provided Barnett with information about getting a protection-from-abuse order and services available at the Women’s Resource Center.
