Charter Day is set for March 8 from noon to 4 p.m. at Historic Ephrata Cloister.

The observance celebrates the 1681 charter for Pennsylvania that was granted to William Penn by King Charles II.

Many sites operated by the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission, including Ephrata Cloister, will be open to the public with free admission. In Ephrata there will be activities, demonstrations and performances.

The Ephrata Cloister Chorus will perform in the 1741 Meetinghouse with 20-minute sessions taking place at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30. Seating is limited to 120 guests per performance with timed entry.

The sudSSpirit grief support group for those who have experienced the sudden unexpected death of a spouse or significant other will meet Tuesday at 6 p.m. in the Exeter Community Library, 4569 Prestwick Drive, Exeter Township.

DEI discussion

The Berks InterCultural Alliance will host Dr. Tiffenia D. Archie discussing “Staying Grounded While the Ground Shifts: DEI in Times of Disruption” on Saturday at 1 p.m. in the Wyomissing Public Library.

DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion; Archie, a Reading High School and Albright College graduate, is associate vice president and chief inclusion officer at Temple University.

Theology with a Twist

Theology with a Twist meets March 3 at 7 p.m. in the Kutztown Tavern, 272 W. Main St. Dr. Brigidda Zapata will lead a talk titled “From Her Own Means: The Women Who Bankrolled the Gospel.” Zapata is assistant professor of New Testament at Moravian Theological Seminary. Her scholarship looks at how several women helped the early Jesus movement with the material sustenance required to operate.

The group gathers in the upper room of the tavern. The event is free but food and drink can be purchased in the restaurant downstairs and brought up to our event space. Parking is available in the community lot behind the tavern or on Main Street.

Pet loss support

A Christian pet loss support group will be held at St. John’s Reformed Church, 4001 Penn Ave., Sinking Spring, on March 2 at 6:45 p.m. Sessions are led by Dr. Becky Frank, associate veterinarian with Lap of Love Veterinary Hospice. Learn more at www.stjohnsss.org/pet-loss.

Winter nature walk

Historic Dreibelbis Farm near Wernersville is hosting a wintertime nature walk into the farm’s fields and nature trail on March 8 at 2 p.m. The focus will be on wood duck habitat and what’s involved in maintenance of wood duck nesting boxes. The program features a hike along the Maiden Creek replacing nesting material in the boxes.

The event is free to the public and will be held rain or shine, with only an absolute downpour or blizzard conditions postponing. Rain/snow date is March 15 .Dress for the weather and be prepared to walk on an icy or muddy nature trail. The farm is located on Route 143 south of Virginville. ‘The Duke’s Ball’

Historic Rock Ford in Lancaster presents “The Duke’s Ball” on May 9 from 5:30 to 9 p.m. The event is an immersive experience designed to transport guests into the heart of 18th-century high society with visiting nobility on the grounds of a historic estate. Play croquet, learn period dances and see a display of Regency-era fashion. The festivities culminate in a formal ball.
