Scranton, Pennsylvania – Roads across northeast Pennsylvania and parts of central New York could become snow-covered within hours as heavy snowfall pushes in by 1 p.m. Sunday, setting the stage for near-whiteout travel through Monday evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Sunday until 7 p.m. Monday for Sullivan County in New York and much of northeast Pennsylvania, including Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Wayne, Susquehanna and Wyoming counties. Delaware and Otsego counties in New York are also under the warning.

Snow totals will range from 7 to 15 inches in Oneonta, Delhi and Montrose, with 8 to 16 inches common around Scranton and Wilkes-Barre. Parts of the higher terrain in the Poconos could see up to 20 inches. Snowfall rates may become intense late Sunday night into early Monday, while north-northwest wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph create blowing and drifting snow with visibility dropping below a quarter mile.
The Monday morning and evening commutes along I-81, I-84 and Route 6 face the greatest disruption. PennDOT and NYSDOT urge motorists to delay unnecessary travel, check 511pa.com or 511NY before leaving and keep emergency supplies in vehicles.
Snow tapers late Monday, but warnings remain in effect until 7 p.m., and drifting could continue into Monday night.
