Supporters said both will mean significant investment in the city. One resolution okayed a project for the Erie County Convention Center.

That plan calls for the construction of a two-story addition to the existing parking ramp and it passed unanimously. The second resolution clears the way for the construction of new housing in Erie’s West Bayfront neighborhood.

This project will see the construction of fourplex and townhouse buildings totalling 61 units built in and near the 600 block of West Second and Third Streets.

Chuck Nelson of Erie City Council said, “The housing is coming in at a currently vacant lot and we’re looking at seeing a lot of new development happening in that part of town, and then the parking garage is gonna open up more opportunities on the bayfront. We love seeing more activity down there.”

The housing resolution passed 5-2, with Council Member Jasmine Flores expressing concern over what she described as the developer’s lack of contact with neighbors.
