June (Hoiditch) Burch
OBITUARY
June Burch passed away peacefully on February 19th at her home in Scranton surrounded by loved ones and in the presence of her favorite photos, art, and books. She is survived by her longtime partner, Richard Wilson; daughter Bonnie Burch, Simpson; son John JD Burch, California; and twin sister Joan Cain, Florida. She was preceded in death by ex-husband Jack Burch; and siblings Mary Ann Alter and Joseph Hoiditch.
June was born in Simpson to Peter and Anna (nee Mudrick) Hoiditch. A 1960 graduate of Fell Highschool, June went on to study nursing at the Buffalo School of Nursing, later working at the Carbondale General Hospital as a pediatric nurse, other healthcare facilities, and in private care. She was proud of her past membership in the choirs of SS. Peter and Paul, Simpson and Christ the King, Scranton.
After a bout of Guillain-Barr Syndrome prevented her from working, June spent her time babysitting neighborhood children and pet-sitting for family and friends. She had a penchant for taking in strays of all varieties and for prolific gift-giving. June and Rick enjoyed attending art and music events in the Scranton area where she could usually be spotted with one of her signature hats and canes. She also followed the University of Scranton basketball teams, and was a knowledgeable life-long fan of Duke Basketball which monopolized her attention during March Madness. When not following sports, she enjoyed reading and collecting Old Hollywood biographies, following local and national politics, supporting animal charities, and keeping in-touch with family and friends through phone calls.
June’s family will forever be grateful to Rick for the care he provided with an abundance of love and patience through the years of her most recent illness. The family would also like to thank Traditional Home Health and Hospice for the professional and compassionate care they provided, allowing June to remain at home as she wished.
The funeral Liturgy will be Friday, February 27 th at 11:00 AM in Ss. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, 43 Rittenhouse Street, Simpson celebrated by the Rev. Nestor Iwasiw, pastor. Interment will take place in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, in the spring.
Family and friends may visit at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until 11:00AM. Memorial contributions may be made in June’s name to Ss. Peter & Paul Greek Catholic Church, P. O. Box 124, Carbondale, PA. 18407
