Daniel ‘Danny’ Granza

OBITUARY

Daniel Danny Granza, 28, of Throop, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, due to a prior heart condition.

Born in Scranton, Daniel was the son of Stacey and Daniel Granza, also of Throop. A graduate of Mid Valley High School’s class of 2016, Daniel went on to earn his associate degree in culinary arts from the Culinary Institute of America, graduating in 2022 with Group Leader distinction.

From a young age Daniel was drawn to the culinary world. A talented Chef, during his studies he went on to extern at the prestigious Sierra Mar at Post Ranch Inn in Big Sur, California, where he then moved and worked.

Upon returning to the area, Daniel worked as a sous chef in local fine dining restaurants, bringing his love for food and flavor wherever he went. That love extended to his home. Daniel’s favorite moments were spent cooking for his family, especially for their weekly Sunday dinners. Daniel spent hours in the kitchen, meticulously preparing each meal and enriching it with flavors. Through his art, he best expressed his love to those he fed, and we felt it with each bite. We will forever miss our cherished favorites and precious kitchen time with him.

Daniel was also a talented guitar player and lover of music. While his knowledge of artists and songs was vast, his favorite genre was rock and roll. Daniel had a gift for finding new music, and prided himself on sharing what he found with those he loved, always encouraging a jam session, dance, or a sing along. He especially enjoyed nights spent listening to music and cooking for his best friend, his mom.

In the spring, Daniel could be found at his spot, his favorite rock at the Dyberry where he would spend hours casting into the creek during trout fishing season. He especially enjoyed his time spent there with his dad, where they’d end the trip cooking steaks creekside.

Daniel will be missed dearly every day by those he left behind. In addition to his parents, surviving are his sisters, Autumn, and fianc, Brandon; and Karly and his little sous chefs who he loved more than words can express: his niece, Sage and nephew, Ozzy; his maternal grandmother, Janice Krushinski; numerous loving uncles, aunts and cousins; and his best boy, Bonzo.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ceil and William Granza; maternal grandfather, Eugene Krushinski; and maternal great-grandmother, Helen Gavala.

Daniel’s time with us was too short, but he lived an unapologetic life full of love, adventure, mischief and, most importantly, flavor.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of the John J. Turko & Sons Funeral Home Inc., Dickson City. Private services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, enjoy a meal with someone you love. As Anthony Bourdain said and Daniel proudly had tattooed on his arm, you learn a lot about someone when you share a meal together.
