Peter Gerhart Miller
OBITUARY
Peter Gerhart Miller, 89, of Robesonia, PA, passed away peacefully in Amsterdam, New York on January 27, 2026. Born on December 1, 1936, to Anita High and Luther Miller, he spent his youth in Berks county, PA. He was a student at Muhlenberg high, where he played football and threw the javelin. He attended Dartmouth on a scholarship, where he played football for one year, then turned his interest to boxing and writing.
After graduation with his B.A. in 1958, he pursued a career in mental health. He began by working with inner city youth in Harlem. He went on to hold various positions in the field and finally worked as a psychiatric case manager for New York Hospital in White Plains.
Peter enjoyed reading, philosophy, poetry and learning about science and animals. He was fascinated by cats, both domesticated and wild. His inquisitive mind was matched by his passion for nature. He swam in natural bodies of water at every opportunity, in quarries, at the ocean and even in the Hudson river. A natural athlete, he loved playing tennis and following competitive sports.
He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Miller and his sisters, Susan Souers and Jane Randall He was predeceased by his sister, Anne Leinbach.
