A longtime employee of Wilson’s public works department died Sunday while heading out to clear roads during the borough’s snow emergency.

Ed Segreaves, 59, died after a two-vehicle crash about 5 p.m. on Nazareth Pike in Lower Nazareth Township. The driver of the other vehicle, Lucas Snyder, 22, died as well. Both men were from Lower Nazareth Township.

Wilson Mayor Donald Barrett said on social media that Segreaves died while on his way to help clear roads during the snowstorm that brought several inches of snow to the area.

“Ed was one of the best, serving our community for more than 25 years with pride, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to doing the job right,” Barrett said. “He was the kind of person every town hopes to have on its team, and his loss is deeply felt across our entire Borough.”

Seagreaves’ family started a GoFundMe campaign to help pay for his funeral and related costs. It will also help his four children manage legal expenses.

“Ed was not only a loving father but also a friend and mentor to many,” his family wrote in the GoFundMe. “His kindness, generosity, and sense of humor touched everyone he met, and his absence is deeply felt by all who knew him.”

As of Tuesday morning, $12,000 of the $13,000 goal had been raised. Those who wish to donate may do so at gofund.me/e8b35ceee.

The Wilson mayor said after moments like the crash, it is important to recognize the people who work for the public works department, who work “tirelessly” to keep the roads safe. He noted they worked through sub-zero temperatures, handled multiple water main breaks and responded to a gas leak during the last storm.

“Their dedication does not go unnoticed, and it should never be taken for granted,” he said.

The crash happened days after a Wilson firefighter was injured responding to a fire in Easton.
