An assistant coach and her father attacked an opposing team’s coach and his wife in front of his 3-year-old daughter after an elementary school basketball game in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, officials said.

The incident took place on Feb. 1, 2026, around 2 p.m. during a 2nd grade basketball game at the Holy Child School at Rosemont on the 1300 block of West Montgomery Avenue in Lower Merion Township, according to investigators.

Brittany Ortiz, the assistant coach of one of the teams, was shouting and cursing during the game which led to an argument with the opposing team’s assistant coach, officials said. Ortiz’s father, William Stanley, also began arguing with the opposing team’s coach, according to the affidavit of probable cause.

After the game, Ortiz, 38, continued arguing with the other coach as well as his wife near the entrance to the gym, investigators said. Witnesses told police Ortiz then grabbed the other coach’s wife by her hair and slammed her to the ground, striking her head against the floor, according to the criminal complaint.

As the other coach tried to stop Ortiz, Stanley struck him in the head, investigators said. Ortiz then kicked the coach in the inner thigh while trying to kick him in the groin, according to officials.

The other coach was holding his 3-year-old daughter as Ortiz and Stanley attacked him, according to the criminal complaint. Investigators said the young girl was hysterical during the fight, urinated on herself, and suffered a bruise on her leg.

The other coach suffered bruising to his inner thigh while his wife lost clumps of her hair and suffered a concussion as well as a contusion on her scalp, according to the criminal complaint.

Ortiz, of Malvern, Pennsylvania, was arrested and charged with assault on a sports official, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, disorderly conduct, and harassment. Her bail was set at $10,000 unsecured and her preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 5, 2026.

Online court records don’t list an attorney who could speak on her behalf.

Lower Merion Township Police requested charges against Stanley via an arrest warrant. He later surrendered to police, NBC10 confirmed. Online court records don’t show the official charges against him.
