BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Bethlehem Area School District says Superintendent Jack Silva will retire at the end of the 2025–2026 school year, after serving as head of the district for three years.

Dr. Silva’s retirement will be effective July 1, BASD said in a news release Tuesday.

The Board of School Directors will share additional information regarding the superintendent search process in the coming weeks, the district said.

The district said Silva will continue to serve as superintendent through June 30.

Silva will complete 40 years of service in public education, including the past three years as Superintendent of Schools, according to the news release.

The district says he shared his decision with the board well in advance to allow for a thoughtful and smooth leadership transition.

“During the coming months, Dr. Silva will continue to lead the district with his characteristic focus on student success, staff support, and strong community partnerships,” the district said in its news release.

“Serving the Bethlehem Area School District has been the greatest honor of my professional life,” said Dr. Silva.

“Each day, I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinary educators, staff, families, and community partners who believe deeply in our students. I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished together and remain confident in the district’s future as we work toward a strong finish to this school year.”

“Dr. Silva has led the Bethlehem Area School District with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to students,” said Board President Michael Faccinetto.

“Under his leadership, the district has strengthened academic programs, deepened community partnerships, and maintained sound fiscal stewardship. The Board is deeply grateful for his service and will move forward with a deliberate and transparent process to identify the next Superintendent to continue this important work. Dr. Silva’s professionalism and dedication exemplify the values of this district, and we thank him for four decades of service to public education.”
