One pet perished in a Drexel Hill house fire Tuesday evening.

At 6:40 p.m., the Upper Darby Fire Department was dispatched to the 700 block of Wildell Road for a kitchen fire in a twin home.

Deputy Fire Chief John D. Calamia said units arrived to find smoke and fire from the kitchen area of one home with all occupants of both dwellings having fled the burning building.

Firefighters used hose lines and quickly extinguished the blaze, keeping fire damage contained to the one side.

There were no injuries, however a cat was found deceased on the second floor of the home. The job was declared under control by 7:15.

Both occupants of the house were displaced for an extended period of time due to smoke, fire and water damage, the deputy chief said. The occupants of the neighboring home were able to continue to stay at their residence.

The cause is currently under investigation by the Upper Darby Fire Marshal’s Office.

Upper Darby units were assisted by Darby Fire Company, Manoa Fire Company, Lansdowne Fire Company, STAT EMS, Mercy Fitzgerald Paramedics and Collingdale EMS.
