OLYPHANT, LACKAWANNA CO. (WOLF) — Firefighters from several Lackawanna County communities battled a house fire early Wednesday morning on Delaware Avenue at Church Street.

Emergency crews from Olyphant, Jessup, Peckville, Eynon and Dunmore were dispatched shortly before 1 a.m. Feb. 25 after reports of a residential structure fire. Initial calls indicated that someone may have been trapped inside.

Before firefighters arrived, a neighbor across the street used a ladder to help the occupants escape safely, according to reports from the scene.

Residents in the area said they heard three loud explosions prior to the fire being reported to the Lackawanna County Communications Center.

Upon arrival, Olyphant Assistant Chief Bob Powell took command and confirmed flames were coming from a second-floor residential structure. He requested additional resources through the mutual aid system to assist at the scene.

The cause of the fire has not yet been released.
