The Pittsburgh Penguins’ news was not good on Wednesday morning. The anticipated return of Sidney Crosby to the lineup will not happen until at least late March.
The team placed Crosby on injured reserve and officially activated defenseman Kris Letang. Moments after the initial announcement, Penguins PR announced via X that Crosby would miss a minimum of four weeks.
Crosby suffered a lower-body injury following a pair of hits from Czech defenseman Radko Gudas in the quarterfinal round while playing for Team Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics. He was unable to play in either the semifinal or gold medal game in Milan.
The team did not report that Crosby had any type of surgery.
The Penguins have 19 games between Thursday and March 31, and Crosby is expected to miss most of them. The team is currently in second place in the Metro Division, five points ahead of the first team out of the playoffs, the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Penguins end their Olympic break Thursday when they host the New Jersey Devils and gold medal winner Jack Hughes at PPG Paints Arena.
