Rematch is the watchword for the District 2 girls basketball championships this weekend at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza.

Three of the title games feature teams that faced off for the title previously.

It starts Thursday at 6 p.m. in Class 4A when Scranton Prep (19-6) and Valley View (19-5) meet for the third consecutive season. The Classics won the past two finals — 55-31 in 2024 and 62-36 in 2025. They are in the championship game for the ninth straight year and looking to claim their fourth consecutive title and eighth in nine years. The lone year they failed to win was 2022 when they lost to Dunmore, 43-42.

During the Lackawanna League Division I season, the Cougars and Classics split their two games.

On Saturday at noon, Dunmore (21-3) and Holy Redeemer (18-7) square off for the fourth consecutive time in the Class 3A final. Dunmore won two of the previous three contests. In 2023, the Lady Bucks closed the game on a 25-1 run for a 50-30 victory. In 2024, the Lady Royals earned a 51-46 win. Last season, Dunmore wrested the crown back with a 49-44 triumph.

Hazleton Area (23-2) and Scranton (11-12) face each other for the second straight year in the Class 6A final Friday at 6 p.m. Last year, the Lady Cougars notched a 62-47 win behind 18 points from Kaitlyn Bindas. Chrissy Jacklinski led the Lady Knights with 22 points.

Earlier Friday, at 4 p.m., the Class 2A final between Wyoming Seminary (17-6) and Mountain View (18-6) is a rematch from last year’s semifinals. The Lady Eagles won that one in overtime, 45-38, behind 19 points from Aubrey Sanders and 11 from Addison Kilmer. Ella Stambaugh scored 29 points for the Lady Blue Knights. Those three players return for their respective teams.

The lone championship game that is not a rematch is in Class 5A where Crestwood (22-3) takes on North Pocono (21-4) on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Lady Comets are looking to make it back-to-back district titles, while the Lady Trojans are trying to win their first district championship since 2005. This is their first appearance in a district final since 2015.
