Mitch Micale has a passion to serve his community.

As an elementary school teacher, he said he is fighting for the next generation by restoring excellence in education, putting students first, empowering parents and ensuring schools focus on strong academics and personal accountability.

But now he is hoping to serve beyond the classroom.

Micale has announced he will seek the Republican nomination to represent the 130th Legislative District in Harrisburg, hoping to succeed incumbent Republican state Rep. David Maloney who has decided not to run for reelection. The district, which includes communities in central and eastern Berks County, has been represented by Maloney since 2010.

“I want an opportunity to serve on a greater level,” Micale said. “I’m a big believer that things happen for a reason, so when I heard that the representative would be stepping away I decided I would try my very best to see if I could gain the trust of voters.”

Micale said he is ready to work hard to earn that trust.

“The 130th Legislative District deserves a representative who is present, visible and truly connected to the people,” the 25-year-old said. “I’m committed to listening to voters and community leaders so that I can be the kind of representative that our community can count on.”

Micale said serving in local government is all about building relationships, and that he is determined to show voters he is invested in the future of the district.

He said that if voters decide to send him to Harrisburg he would focus on lowering the cost of living for Pennsylvania families, strengthening public safety by supporting and equipping law enforcement and first responders, and making state government more efficient and accountable to taxpayers.

Micale said he is committed to restoring fiscal responsibility by passing on-time budgets and eliminating wasteful government spending, protecting Second Amendment rights, defending the unborn and safeguarding election integrity.

“I’m about getting things done,” he said.

Micale was the first candidate to officially announce his intention to run for the post in the May 19 primary. Melissa Brewer, a former  Antietam School District superintendent, announced the following day that she is also seeking the Republican nomination to the position.
