ERIE — After a memorable season that saw them lose just one regular-season game and earn a District 9 Central League title and the District 9 5A crown, the Punxsy girls basketball team saw its season come to a tough end on Wednesday at the hand of Cathedral Prep, 49-12 in the District 8/9/10 subregional semifinal.
Prep kept Punxsy off the board for the entirety of the first quarter and scored the game’s first 19 points, then managed to hold Punxsy to just 12 points between the second and third quarters before blanking the Lady Chucks again in the fourth.
A pair of Cathedral Prep players reached double digits, with Natalie Spano matching Punxsy’s team total with 12 points, and Leah Nies scoring 11. Seana Thrower added eight, and Mia Washburn had seven.
Natalie Burkett was Punxsy’s top scorer with five points, followed by Addy Lewis with three and Bella Young and Kennedy Day with two each.
Punxsy finished the season with a 24-2 record.
