MAXATAWNY TWP., Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police say three people who fled the scene of a multi-vehicle crash on Route 222 in northern Berks County Thursday morning were apprehended.

Route 222 in Maxatawny Township was closed between Topton Road and Church Road due to the crash, according to the county’s Department of Emergency Services. The road has since reopened.

State Police Trooper Nathan Brownback said three vehicles were involved in the wreck, with two of the vehicles colliding head-on. One of the drivers was taken to the hospital, Brownback said.

It appeared three people fled the scene, Trooper Brownback said. 

No word on what led up to the crash.
