READING, Pa. — If you can’t wait for Berks Jazz Fest, head to GoggleWorks in Reading, where jazz is already alive.

The 22nd annual Art of Jazz exhibit is now on display in the Schmidt Gallery at GoggleWorks. The show honors legendary local musician Frank Scott.

“He was a tenor saxophonist that was pretty famous around here,” said Chanteé Gibson, community programs director for Berks Arts. “And so they invite all artists to come and submit their work with the theme of celebrate jazz.”

Artists from across the East Coast were invited to create work inspired by jazz.

The exhibit is on display in the Schmidt Gallery on the second floor of GoggleWorks.

Gibson highlighted several artists featured in the exhibit.

“Nadia Musick did this artwork called Chet Baker’s Long Blue Note. She’s a returning artist,” Gibson said. “And Gregory Didyoung does all of his work with fragmented pieces of metal.”

The exhibit opened Feb. 18 and runs through March 18.

After that, it heads to the DoubleTree by Hilton Reading as part of Berks Jazz Fest, which begins March 19.

“It makes me feel proud to be a part of Berks Arts and this organization that brought this show to Reading and Berks Jazz Fest when we’re doing our 35th annual anniversary,” Gibson said. “It’s amazing that it’s been around for so long.”
