PITTSTON TWP. — Following a dismal month due to severe winter weather, flights at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport decreased significantly, but with news that Breeze Airways is adding nonstop flights to Orlando, Fla., there was reason to celebrate at Thursday’s meeting of the Bi-County Airport Board.
Beth Coslett, Air Service Development director, delivered her monthly report on passenger activity, noting that passenger enplanements for January decreased 11% to 18,418, from 20,670 in January 2025.
Coslett also reported that 23 departing flights were cancelled in January — 22 for weather, 1 for air traffic control issues. Coslett said 25 arriving flights were cancelled — 24 for weather; 1 for ATC.
In January 2024, the airport announced Breeze Airways would be the carrier to return nonstop flights to Florida — a service that was absent for years following the departure of Allegiant. According to the airport website, Breeze offers four daily flights to Fort Myers, Fla., on Mondays and Fridays; four daily flights to Orlando, Fla., on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays; and four daily flights on Sundays and Thursdays to Tampa, Fla.
Earlier this week, Breeze Airways announced a new nonstop route to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport. Service will be offered on Wednesdays and Saturdays starting July 1. Fares for the new route will start at $79 one-way.
