t’s a busy weekend at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza as district 2 holds their basketball championships.

Tonight there were two games on the floor that included all Lackawanna League teams.

Up first the Four A girls championship between Valley View and Scranton Prep.

These two team met twice during the regular season.

The Classics built an 8 point lead in the 3rd quarter. The Cougars cut that lead to 4 late int he game but in the end it was Scranton Prep who wins their fourth straight district championship 52-47 in a season where they had to replace 4 starters.

Bob Beviglia, Scranton Prep coach says, “ You know, our football coach, Terry Gallagher, says that they’re gritty. And I don’t think there’s no better adjective for them than that.

I love it, they love it. Their work pail type of kids, They’re not pretty. Last year, for the last three years, we’ve been a pretty basketball team. This group just works hard. They’re going to try to defend and rebound. They don’t care who gets the shot, who makes the shot. I think the fact that they hung in there together, you know, took a couple of pops on the chin tonight and were able to maintain the lead and come out with the win.

It’s just a testament to who they are. “

Chloe Mamera, Scranton Prep Sophomore, added. “ Oh my God it it’s the best feeling in the world. We’ve been working so hard for this moment and we just wanted to come out on top today after, you know losing the league. “

Game two was a boys Triple A game with Dunmore and Riverside who also played twice during the regular season.

The Bucks took a 10 point lead in the first quarter but the vikings kept battling back before taking the lead late in the 4th quarter, prevailing 51-48.

Riverside wins their third straight district 2 championship.
