As dangerously cold temperatures and wind chills move into Lackawanna County, the Lackawanna County Emergency Management Agency and the City of Scranton have declared a Code Blue Frigid Weather Alert from Saturday night (February 28) through Tuesday morning (March 3).
During the Saturday night into Sunday morning period, wind chills are expected to drop to 20 degrees, with a chance for mixed precipitation. From Saturday night into Monday morning, temperatures are forecast to fall to 15 degrees with a wind chill of 6 degrees. From Monday night into Tuesday morning, temperatures are expected to dip to 14 degrees with a wind chill of 6 degrees.
A Code Blue is issued during extremely cold weather, when temperatures are expected to drop below 20 degrees, and triggers a plan to help vulnerable populations, especially people experiencing homelessness.
Emergency shelter options during the alert include:
St. Anthony’s Haven, 409 Olive St., Scranton, open 7 p.m. to 8 a.m.
Weston Field House, 982 Providence Road, Scranton, open at 7:30 p.m.
