September kicks off what’s considered the prime season for Pennsylvania sports betting. Sure, the defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles starting the regular season helps. However, the combination of NFL Week 1 and the start of college football season provides fresh betting options following the slower summer months in which Major League Baseball betting is the primary option.
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board (PGCB)
September revenue report
shows that Keystone State sports bettors wagered $850.5 million during September. That’s a 4.84% increase from the same period last year ($811.3 million).
Taxable sports betting revenue, however, was only $29.7 million, $24.3 million of which was from PA mobile sports betting apps. It’s a significant 44.45% drop from September 2024’s $53.5 million.
The 8.4% hold is an indicator that Keystone State sports bettors enjoyed a better month than the books. By comparison, August’s hold percentage was 12.9%.
FanDuel leads the Pennsylvania sports betting field
Looking closer at individual online operators, FanDuel Sportsbook (Valley Forge Casino) and DraftKings Sportsbook (Hollywood Meadows) accounted for the majority of the revenue. FanDuel earned $15.8 million, which is a 42% drop from September 2024 ($27.4 million). DraftKings experienced a 68.7% year-over-year fall after reporting just $4.1 million last month. September 2024’s total was $13.1 million.
The month wasn’t much better for the other PA sports betting operators. BetMGM (Hollywood Morgantown) was the only other brand to earn over $2 million. The table below shows a breakdown by casino operator and percentage change from September 2024.

Pennsylvania gambling revenue up nearly 6% overall
Sports betting revenue might’ve fallen short, but Pennsylvania’s total combined revenue of $535.8 million increased 5.92% from September 2024’s $505.9 million.
Pennsylvania online casino revenue accounted for $233.4 million of that total. It’s a significant 32.1% increase from the $176.1 reported last September. However, it did not set a new Pennsylvania iGaming record. That number is $291.5 million, and it was set during August of this year. Lifetime revenue for the sector has now exceeded $11 billion.
