ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Allentown city councilwoman Ce-Ce Gerlach, who is running for State Representative, received multiple endorsements on Friday, including one from former State Rep. Josh Siegel.
Gerlach is challenging Ana Tiburcio in the May 19th primary. Tiburcio was selected by the local Democratic Party in a closed-door process and has not yet faced a competitive primary, according to a news release.
Democrat Ana Tiburcio wins Pa. 22nd District seat in special election
Ana Tiburcio defeated Republican former school board member Robert E. Smith Jr. in the 22nd Legislative District election. She won more than 67% of the vote and will replace Democrat Joshua Siegel, who resigned from the House to take office as Lehigh County executive.
The Pennsylvania Working Families Party, Make the Road Action Pennsylvania, Lehigh Valley DSA, Lehigh County Executive Josh Siegel, and Lehigh County Commissioner Jon Irons endorsed Ce-Ce Gerlach in the primary for State House in Pennsylvania’s 22nd legislative district, according to a news release.
“What Ce-Ce understands is that the way through this moment is not to keep our heads down, to stay out of the headlines, and hide from the fight. That’s what’s wrong with the Democratic Party,” said County Executive Josh Siegel.
Gerlach was first elected to the Allentown City Council in 2019 and was the top vote getter on the ballot for city council during her re-election in the 2023 Democratic primary, the news release said.
“I am incredibly thankful to these organizations and officials for their endorsements. We’re sick and tired of status-quo politics, because status-quo politics aren’t working,” said Ce-Ce Gerlach, candidate for HD-22. “We need people who are willing to go to Harrisburg and fight for working people. I’m not one to back down from a fight, and that’s what I’m going to do, side-by-side with all of you.”
