ALLENTOWN, Pa. – PennDOT Engineering District 5 announced Friday work will begin Monday on a traffic signal improvement project in Lehigh County.

The project involves the installation of new traffic signals and pedestrian facilities at the intersection at Mauch Chuck Road and Presidential Drive, according to officials. 

The project also includes replacing the existing traffic signal equipment at the intersection of Mauch Chunk and Scherersville Road and the intersection of Mauch Chunk and Girard/Pirma Avenue. New pedestrian crosswalks and pushbuttons will also be added, a news release said. 

The project also includes tree clearing, utility relocation, drainage work, intersection widening and paving.

Beginning Monday, Mauch Chunk Road will have sporadic daytime (9am – 3pm) and nighttime (6pm – 6am) lane restrictions with flagging between Scherersville and Gallagher roads, according to officials.

Updates on traffic conditions will be provided when available.

J.D.Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, PA is the general contractor on the $1,727,527 project that is anticipated to be complete in August 2027, according to officials.
