When police arrived on scene, Small said they found a 40-year-old man slumped in the driver’s seat of a Nissan sedan that was partially on the curb and partially in the parking lane. He was unresponsive, suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

The vehicle the man was found in was registered to him, according to Small.

Small said police rushed the man to a nearby hospital, where he was placed in critical condition. He died from his injuries hours later.

At the scene, Small said, investigators found a semi-automatic weapon just a few feet away from the man’s vehicle. One 9mm round was recovered and the vehicle was towed.

Small explained that there were also no bullet holes that were obvious in the man’s vehicle. Investigators are not certain if the man was in or outside the vehicle when he was shot.

“We’re not certain at this time because the vehicle he was in is very, very, very cluttered,” said Small.

Investigators are now using surveillance camera footage in the area to piece together what happened.
