I’m always amazed at what some people consider a “fair” tax. Our current state income tax is 3.07% — for everybody. There are no politicians messing around with who should pay what or favoring one group of citizens over another.
If you earn a little, you pay a little, and you are participating in the economy of the state. If you make a lot, you pay a lot. The more your pay goes up, the more tax you pay, in a straight line.
There is no additional tax on your income because someone else thinks you should pay a greater percentage calculated by some arbitrary scheme.
The current system seems to be the fairest one to me: Earn a little, pay a little; earn a lot, pay a lot.
