Starving and left behind, a cat now fights for his life after being rescued from the basement of a Philadelphia apartment.
The Stray Cat Relief Fund reported that on Monday night they responded to an apartment building in Philadelphia’s Logan neighborhood after receiving reports of a severely emaciated cat in the basement.
The organization shared that the cat was found in critical condition with a box and taken to an emergency veterinary hospital for treatment.

Since his hospitalization, the cat, now named Christopher, has undergone blood transfusions and emergency surgery. He isn’t out of the woods yet, but the organization shares that he is on the road to recovery.
The Stray Cat Relief Fund strongly believes someone left Christopher in those poor conditions and is working with the apartment’s property management to obtain security footage to identify who is responsible.
“This was not a stray wandering in — this was abandonment,” the organization wrote. “Christopher survived long enough to be found. Many others do not.”
