CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) – The Cleveland Monsters defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 2-1 in overtime Saturday at Rocket Arena, securing a victory that moved them to second place in the American Hockey League’s North Division.
Jack Williams scored the game-winner in extra time, assisted by Guillaume Richard and Dysin Mayo, to give Cleveland (29-17-6-1) the win against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (36-13-4-2).
Zach Aston-Reese opened the scoring for the Monsters in the first period at 6:21 with helpers from Richard and Brendan Gaunce. The Penguins answered back on the power play in the second period when Matt Gumba scored at 17:10 to tie the game at 1-1.
The teams remained scoreless through the third period before Williams’ decisive overtime goal.
Ivan Fedotov made 18 saves for Cleveland, while Sergei Murashov finished with 27 saves in defeat for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Cleveland will travel to face the Toronto Marlies on Wednesday, March 4, at 11 a.m. at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
